Category: Haunted Objects
Can spirits attach themselves to an item or location? Can an object become cursed, possessed or haunted? How could an object store something like that? If there is such a thing as a Haunted House…then why not a Haunted Object?
If a house can hold an energy / curse / entity (in theory), what about individual objects?
Perhaps an item with some special connection to the deceased.
Perhaps an item can be cursed using some dark magic ritual?
There are theories and reports from many of those that have encountered such things, that swear that they can and do.
Be it a personal belonging of the deceased, a car, old furniture, portraits and mirrors, Ouija Boards, wedding dresses, a favourite toy (dolls are a common item) or just some random and unassuming household object that appears to hold something unexplainable within, that somehow creates some overwhelming emotion for anyone holding or near it. Cursed and haunted objects have also been blamed for causing mysterious deaths and suicide.
Personally, to be bluntly honest, I’m not quite sold on the idea; though I can see things from both sides. I can appreciate a good ghost story, but I do sympathise with those that genuinely feel their home and those in it are in some danger as a result of a specific item that somehow is causing trauma and emotional (even physical) disturbance within the family.
As a Paranormal researcher, it is something of a duty for us to look into such things.
To at least try to filter out the fairy tales from the fact. Claims of allegedly haunted items are a worldwide phenomenon and go back hundreds, even thousands of years. Stories of dolls being possessed by previous owners, walking and talking are common and seem to be a popular form for the spirits to take on as a host. Portraits and people in paintings are said to move; faces appear in mirrors and toys activate on their own; even without batteries.
Being a mad collector of all things creepy, macabre and mysterious I have, throughout the past three or so decades, amassed quite the eclectic assortment of items; the feared and the curious.
Many are from fearful families making contact asking for me to please take it away; some are from people that have had experiences and so offer an item to me as they feel I could add it to my research. A couple I have salvaged from derelict houses that have a dark or sad history and are due to be demolished. A couple of examples are a small window from a demolished house in Hobsonville that was the scene of a murder, which is inscribed with ritualistic symbols, and a couple dolls that I rescued (felt sorry for, so adopted) from a burned out house out south. A few have just turned up on my doorstep (literally!).
In this section I will endeavour to post photos of a few of the items in my collection, complete with their back-stories, to try and document and share with our readers as much as we can about them; in the interest of an open-mind and to hopefully advance our personal research. If you have an item in your home which either has a dark or traumatic past…or you feel might be haunted, cursed or containing something not welcome in your home, please get in contact. Thanks, Enjoy! – Mark
