Abandoned Art School – Huia

Nestled in the West Auckland bush, close to the roadside; but if you were to blink when passing, you might miss it.  Its only a flash of sea blue paint splashed across the frontage that might catch your eye. Also known as The Fisher Lodge, the Huia House and the Elam House. Originally owned by a former Director of Auckland’s Elam School of Fine Art, Archibald Joseph Charles Fisher, who passed away in 1959. The house was later donated to the Elam Art school who soon had no use for it so it spent a number of years, abandoned and unused with much unfounded urban myth running wild about the place. The house now sits, taken over by nature and utilised only by squatters, the homeless and passing non-fussy young travellers ”in the know”, wanting free shelter for a night.
